Premiere Composite Technologies\u2019 (PCT) exhibit at 100% Design London 2011 was an informational stand designed by UNStudio of Amsterdam.\u00a0 If it recalls illustrations of molecular structure, that\u2019s no accident.\u00a0 In a way very similar to molecules, it is based on the repetition of a single geometric module.<\/p>\n

The piece, entitled Modular Fabrication, made of glass fiber and epoxy resin over a structural foam core, won the Blueprint Award at 100% Design London.\u00a0 It offers a variety of spaces and functions, presenting information on small video screens, illumination, seating, and defining a space of about 5 X 10 meters.\u00a0 It takes\u00a0 advantage of the great strength-to-weight ratio of the composite to create a structure that appears practically unconcerned about the usual effects of gravity.<\/p>\n

According to architect Ben Van Berkel, founder of UNStudio: \u201cWith Modular Fabrication we celebrate both the inherent qualities of composite materials and the technological expertise in the manufacturing of these. The installation celebrates the spatial possibilities created by the material and the ways that this can be appropriated in architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n
