The two-day event features a full-day symposium with a variety of presentations and discussion-based panels, and a full day of workshops, including a hands-on workshop on designing with Composites, and a dialog workshop on Emerging Material Technologies.

Each day of the conference is eligible for 8 AIA LU/HSW credits, a total of 16 credits in the full event.

The first day Symposium includes the morning keynote address Ecoarchitecture, presented by Ken Yeang, (Hamzah & Yeang), and the afternoon keynote, Glass Without Guilt, given by Gary Handel (Handel Architects). Other sessions include The Components of Performance, Energy Envelope Performance, and Performative Facade Design with Computation and Topology, and three panel discussions on Innovation, Materials, and Digital Technology.

The second day is devoted to day-long dialog workshops and hands-on workshops. We want to point out in particular the Hands-On Composites workshop, presented by Bill Kreysler and Josh Zabel of Kreysler and Associates. (Full disclosure: Kreysler & Associates is the sponsor of this blog.) The course description says:

“Composite materials, often shortened to “composites” are engineered or naturally occurring materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties which remain separate and distinct at the macroscopic or microscopic scale within the finished structure. This workshop will focus on the design and development of composite components for architectural facades. Through lectures and hands-on learning designing simple FRP shapes, the workshop will provide participants with both the creative and technical knowledge to design and prototype composite based building components.”

(Click here to go directly to the registration page for this workshop.)

Bill Kreysler will also discuss composites as one of the leaders of the dialog workshop, Emerging Material Technologies:

Bringing together an array of material technology experts, this session will explore both the unique advantages associated with each material, as well as the challenges of introducing innovative façade technologies into architectural applications. The discussion will include an emphasis on performance metrics for each technology and case study applications of successful implementation.

Participants can register for either day, or both days. There is a steeply discounted registration for students.
